The overarching objective of the exercise was to reduce the construction programme from circa 8 years to circa 5 years.
The precast proposal facilitated this by taking creation of complex geometry off the critical path, and reducing risk of delay due to clashing trades by creating separate workfaces. The scheme consisted of simple components that could be manufactured in many non-specialist precasting plants away from site and brought together to create the final complex geometry. This philosophy was also applied at Brisbane Cross River Rail.
Additional winding-off risk was stripped out of the programme by replacing traditional RC construction, and light-weight shutters, with a wholesale precast concrete installation.
